Green sea turtles are named for their layer of green fat that lies under their shell. Scientists believe this unusual quirky-colored fat is the result of their veggie diet of seaweed and sea grass.

STC’s long-term green turtle recovery program at Tortuguero, Costa Rica, as being one of the world’s greatest marine conservation success stories.

Through research & educational programs at STC, you can learn about different species; their feeding, mating and nesting behavior along with the threats they face and the steps being taken to protect them.

This is Mojito, a wild Hawksbill turtle that is equipped with a satellite tracker so we can track her migratory movements by satellite.

Sea turtles are older than dinosaurs. Yet people today are their biggest threat and could be the cause their extinction.

A leatherback turtle can way over 1000 pounds and be over 6.5’ long.
