Connecting people with coffee
"Evans Brothers Coffee, located in Sandpoint, Idaho, was started by two brothers, Rick and Randy Evans in the summer of 2009. They developed their vision for this family-owned business over long lift rides at Schweitzer Mountain Resort's Chair 6 in the winter of 2008/2009. Their intention with the business would be to create a long-lasting company that would add tremendous value to their local communities, and that would strive to connect people with the story of the coffee itself. They would create special experiences around a cup of coffee, showcasing the producers and importers that do so much of the real work. Traveling to origin and connecting at this level has always been important. Equally as important to the brothers has been creating a place for true connection in their communities, to inspire people and provide a sense of place. One of their guiding principles is to contribute to communities in a meaningful way. They want to make a positive, meaningful impact in their ‘backyard’, along with contributing to the long-term success and well-being of the families of their farmers and producer partners. On the producer level, they emphasize long-term partnerships with their partners, paying well above the ‘Fair Trade’ minimum price for quality coffee. They are involved in several ‘Best Cup’ auction programs, which directly reward the quality efforts of these farmers. They are involved in various partnerships such as with their Brazil Sertao coffee. Every pound purchased gives 10 cents back to the women-owned cooperative for social programs in the community. On the local level, they created a ‘Featured Non-Profit Program’ to leverage the communal role that their cafes play, with the intent of providing fundraising and awareness for locally based Non-Profit Organizations “NP”."
